Capvent invests into the significant private equity opportunities in the consumer and sustainable living sector, that are available to middle market enterprises in emerging Asia, particularly in China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia.
The direct investment program is a natural evolution motivated by the excellent networks we possess in Asia and also in the developed markets to resources that allow our portfolio companies to expand their horizons and grow quicker. In many cases we will work alongside other GP relationships and strategies in Asia and overseas.
The focus is on consumer oriented businesses, those focusing on inefficiencies in the consumer supply chain and on businesses that focus on tackling environmental and energy conservation issues. We believe that the growth in these sectors will greatly outpace the already high GDP growth in the countries we invest in.
In order to assist our companies and the GPs who may co-invest with us, we have created an excellent panel of LPs in our fund who have agreed to provide strategic help to our portfolio companies. These invaluable resources help Asian entrepreneurs find answers to their difficult questions related to coping with fast growth in their economies. Of these partners, our anchor investor is Unilever Corporate Ventures, who acts as our strategic partner for Asia for the fund, and in particular provides resources to portfolio companies that are targeting personal consumption. Companies can benefit from access to Unilever’s knowledge in many areas such as human resources, branding, risk management, product positioning, etc. We have also secured the resources of other key partners in the food and agribusiness, consumer products, retail, and clothing retail.
