Charles started Tano Capital in 2003, which is an international alternative investment management firm with investments in China, India and in global hard assets.
Prior to this, he served as co-president of Franklin Resources, Inc. ("Franklin Templeton Investments"; NYSE: “BEN”), one of the largest publicly traded money management firms in the world. Charles’ responsibilities included global oversight of all portfolio management, information technology, product development, mergers and acquisitions and non-U.S. business. Prior to this, Charles served as president and CEO of Templeton Worldwide Inc.
With respect to India and China, Charles began traveling to India in 1994 and started the Franklin Templeton India (“FT India”) mutual fund company in 1996. FT India is now one of the largest domestic mutual fund managers in India, reaching over US $3.5 BN assets under local management in 2004 and growing rapidly. In addition, he established the first non-US office for Franklin in Taiwan in 1986.
Charles received a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University Graduate School of Business in 1985, and a Bachelor of Science degree from UCLA in 1979. He is also certified as a CPA by the California State Board of Accountancy.
