Mahon China
David has been a pioneer in China investment and founded his firm, as Mahon & Associates, in 1985. Initially involved in corporate and trade advisory, Mahon China moved into funds management in 1992, making it one of the Mainland’s oldest foreign owned investment firms.
As private equity managers David and the Mahon China team have represented the China investments and interests of a variety of international financial groups including Crosby Asset Management, Australia’s Colonial Mutual Group and Swiss Life.
As leader of the Mahon China investment team, David has had direct responsibility for the management of 19 Chinese companies and is involved in all major aspects of investment transactions, from grassroots deal sourcing through his extensive contacts in China, to liaison with potential foreign exit partners and customers.
In addition to private equity funds management, David and Mahon China leverage their hands-on experience to provide corporate advisory services to financial and industrial companies dealing with, and investing in, China. David has advised clients on all aspects of their China operations including strategy development, facility establishment, M&A, partner negotiations and restructurings.
David’s views are regularly sought by foreign and domestic media and he has spoken at government, NGO and privately sponsored seminars in China, the United States and Australasia on topics ranging from the economic development of China to foreign financial investment opportunities.
